Lessons, electives and activities prepare students as successful adults no matter their goals – from military academies to trade professions. Self-paced, individualized learning provides freedom to explore differently. ","\u003Ch2>Competency-Based Learning \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Students work at their own speed. As students demonstrate mastery on part of a course, they progress with the next content. Some students work on each course weekly, while others focus on a couple at a time. Students complete all work by the end of the semester. Honors options are offered. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Unique Curriculum \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Much of what’s taught at The Village is developed by our teaching staff, and, of course, aligned with state academic standards. Subject examples include Science in Society, Drafting, Engineering, Coding, Sports Marketing, Women in Literature and a PE class known for an occasional putt-putt trip. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Pathway to the Future \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Though students have ownership of their learning, each year is designed to develop life skills. Freshmen begin with programs to promote high school success. Sophomores hone communicating and problem solving. Juniors learn civics and personal finance, while seniors explore careers and optional internships. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Electives \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Studies cross into electives, with The Village teaching staff leading both. Electives, such as Forensic Science and Legal Issues, are designed to teach independence, literacy, wellness, collaboration, communication and passion. Expeditionary Electives take exploration off campus twice a month. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Passion Projects \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Beyond electives, students research, discover and learn more with optional individual projects. Study and work is performed over one quarter, and students participate in the topic selection process with guidance from their teacher. Past projects include beekeeping, 3D modeling, community service and novel writing. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>Mentorship \u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>No one falls through the cracks at The Village.
